To be human is to be hugely affected by what is happening in the world

Sadness, depression and grief may linger in your heart

Colours fade into one tone of grey

You may even gasp at the edge of despair, sometimes

For one breath of hope, you’d give your life

* * *

* * *

Often, you may question your sanity

You may wake up screaming at night

Your pillow soaked with tears streaming

You may wonder if it is all but a bad dream,

A nightmare rather

Or is it a 3D horror movie in which you’re sucked in somehow

An observer, helplessly watching

* * *

* * *

Did I read that correctly?

Did I truly hear the little girl saying such words?

Is that world for real?

Are those perpetrators even human?

Did I land in the wrong universe?

* * *

* * *

Volcanoes erupt in your chest

Battles rage in your head

and you,

YOU… are crushed in between

* * *

* * *

Watching in curious apprehension

You try to regain bearings

To be a voice of reason

Amidst this madness

 * * *

* * *
You hold your fearful heart, tight

You take your mind by the hand
Hush hush its flying thoughts

Tap its shoulder, ever so gently

and whisper

Dear mind, do you mind to step aside for a moment

With all due respect, your knowledge is but a speck

You are not the author, you are not the hero

Not even an actor, or a comma in the script

and the story, O the story

Written on plane ∅ with letters of Light

Finely tuned explosion shattered nothingness into being

Time was born

Layer upon layer, the cosmos unfolds

Pages turning, evolving, a masterpiece

Exquisite beauty

Grand splendour

Sublime grace

Each chapter surpasses the one before

In elegance and magnificence

Imagine the ending, in a world unseen !

 * * *
* * * * * * * * * *
Mind retreats, devout in silence

Heart serene

* * * * * * * * * *

* * *

Be conscious of the soul you are

Listen to the songs within

Spread your wings high and wide… Rise above

Heighten your inner resolve … Affect change

Tighten the rope to the Source… Spread hope

Smile at the rainbow again… The End is worth it

Biography of an Odd-Soul

* * *

A silent child I was

Hardly ever spoken

This girl is abnormally quiet, they whispered

She must be deaf or dumb

* * *

* * *

In a world of my own

Mind running amok

Curious feral child

Up a fig tree, pomegranate or mulberry

Dreaming endlessly

Tantalized by a world of wonder

Bursting with questions

Dying for answers

How did it all begin?

Where is it heading?

And why?
* * *
* * *

How many stars are there?

How come they don’t fall?

Why are shimmering?

Where do they go daytime?

What are sun and moon, doing up there?

What would we find at the edge of universe?

* * *
* * *

Who I really am?

How come I can think?

Who is that talking inside my head,

When my my lips are utterly sealed?

What am I doing here?

Where did I come from?

And most intriguing, why?

* * *

* * *

Looking at ants, wow, I am gigantic!

From afar, the minaret is smaller than my little finger

Up a mountain, flabbergasted, O my O my

I am so tiny, the sky is so high
* * *
* * *

Untamed child, with a stolen heart

Captured by a net, weaved of stars

A sky-gazer, fascinated by all

Everything flying leaf, every passing breeze
Every living being, big or small
* * *
* * *

My dad called me Elm, (knowledge in Arabic)

What do you want to be when you grow up

He asked one day

“A Philo-phoser”, certain, I replied

 * * *

* * *

At school, I would turn red-jam-jelly

When spoken to, or asked a question

Hence the nickname, Nena Red cheeks
* * *

* * *

My friends would hang around a bit, then would move on

They want to chat, play and run

I want to sit still, let my mind meander, up above the clouds

Why sky is blue? what are these fluffs scattered below?

If I stretch my hands that far, would I find out what they really are?

A silent child I was, an odd-soul

To play with, apparently was not much fun
* * *

* * *

Teenage years didn’t change much

My friends would be chattering and giggling away

When I draw near their chats would turn to whispers

To this very day, I have no idea what was going on

I knew they mentioned boys, but for heavens sake

Why was it so funny? what were the giggles all about?

A silent child I was, an odd-soul

To include in conversations, apparently wasn’t cool
* * *

* * *

Bothered, I was most certainly not

In fact I was relieved

Too fascinated in my world of wonder

Vast and ever expanding

With this awesomeness, who would want some silly jokes anyway

A silent child I was, an odd-soul

A dreamer living a dream

Eden hues, supreme

Just to See You Smile

I peel the petals of my heart

One by one

Lay them down

A pillow, fragrant and tender

Just for you

I grate the kernel of my soul

Day by day

Stitch with stardust

A cocoon, warm and cozy

Just for you

I glean the tears of my eyes

Droplet by droplet

Fill a lake, a sea or an ocean

To wash fear, pain and sorrow

For time without end
Just for you

I gather the beats of my heart

Hour after hour

A string of starts

Sew it a blanket, silk and velvet

Just for you

Only to see you smile again

and for your beautiful eyes to gleam

This love I have for you

Holds me, lifts me, carries me through

When all is dark

When pain is deep

When love is scarce

When friends are few

This love I have for you

Holds me, lifts me, carries me through

Be a Rose

Be a rose

Giving fragrance when caressed

Held up softly, crushed or destroyed

In abundance it fills the ambiance

Never withholds what it contains

Every person you come by

Paths have crossed, wisdom unknown

Don’t let it pass or go to waste

Without a whisper, heart to heart

Spiky shells hide weary souls

Fragile and wounded throbbing in pain

Just like you, carry own load

Seeking retreat, hurting and cold

Wash tears and fears with a glowing smile

Extend your hands, embrace a face

Nabi Saleh, West Bank, 10.2.2013

Reassure with a tender gaze

Delight, as you leave your scent behind

Brush your surrounds with your heavenly soul

Paint grey days with rainbow hues

lilac and mauve, violet and green

Red and amber, pink and blue

Scatter your pearls for all who seek

Sparkles of joy, boundless sublime

Awaken seeds of love, dormant inside

Watch barren hearts tremble and bloom

Be a rose

As a child

Don’t ever lose your sense of wonder

Look as a child with eyes open wide

You will see

Marvel at every leaf you come by

As you hold between your fingers

  ooz +flowers

Laugh with tantalizing raindrops

As they touch your beautiful face

Fill your soul with glee… delightful

As you run to meet the rainbow

Don’t ever lose your sense of wonder

Listen as child with attentive heart

You will hear

Feel the awe as you’re filled with joy

 While you sing your favourite tune

Swirl… twirls… jump… hop… and skip

As you chant with doves of love

Be amazed at the joyful breeze

Blowing through your dancing hair

Don’t ever lose your sense of wonder

Observe as child with a soul so tender

You will understand

Don’t ever lose your sense of wonder
